Scope
What this policy covers.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Novel Architect desktop application, related
backend services, beta programs, purchase flows, AI request processing, and this
website. It does not cover third-party websites or services that Novel Architect does
not control.
Local app data
Your manuscript data is local by default.
Novel Architect stores books, chapters, versions, context entries, reviews, drafts,
and other writing workspace data locally on your device. This local manuscript data is
not uploaded just because you create or edit it in the desktop app.
Account data
Data we may collect from you.
We may collect account and contact data such as your email address, username, login
identifier, beta application details, support messages, and basic account status. This
data is used to create and manage accounts, contact beta testers, provide support,
protect the service, and communicate important product or account information.
Purchases
Purchase and story point records.
We may log in-app purchases, story point grants, story point usage, transaction
identifiers, payment status, timestamps, and related account identifiers. These
records are used to provide purchased features, prevent fraud or abuse, resolve
support issues, comply with accounting obligations, and maintain accurate account
balances. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider and are not stored
directly by Novel Architect.
AI requests
AI request processing and logs.
When you submit an AI request, Novel Architect may send the selected material needed
for that request, such as book details, prompts, selected context entries, selected
previous chapters, chapter skeletons, chapter text, revision instructions, and review
focus notes. We may log AI request metadata such as user account, request type, time,
status, story point cost, provider job identifiers, and processing errors. These logs
are used to process the request, show job status, calculate story point usage,
troubleshoot failures, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
Temporary backend storage
How selected writing material is handled.
Writing material selected for an AI job may be temporarily stored by backend services
while the request is processed. After the AI job is completed or fails, Novel
Architect aims to remove the submitted request material from backend databases when it
is no longer needed for processing, troubleshooting, security, or legal obligations.
The completed result is returned to the desktop app and stored locally.
Website and beta form
Data collected through the website.
If you apply for the beta or contact us through a form, we may collect the information
you submit, including email address, name or pen name, writing genre, current writing
stage, tools used, operating system, and feedback preferences. Embedded forms may be
provided by third-party services such as Google Forms, which process form data under
their own terms and privacy practices.
Legal basis
Why we process personal data.
Depending on the situation, personal data may be processed to provide the app and
account services you request, fulfill purchases, comply with legal obligations,
protect the security and integrity of the service, respond to support requests, run
the beta program, or based on your consent where consent is required.
Sharing
Who may receive data.
We may share data with service providers that help operate Novel Architect, such as
hosting providers, authentication providers, payment processors, form providers,
analytics or logging tools, support tools, and AI service providers. We may also
disclose data if required by law, to protect rights and security, or in connection
with a business transfer. We do not sell manuscript data.
Retention
How long data is kept.
Local writing data remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app data.
Account, purchase, story point, AI request, support, and beta application records are
kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy,
including service operation, security, dispute resolution, accounting, and legal
compliance.
Security
How data is protected.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data.
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are
responsible for protecting access to your own device, account credentials, local
manuscript files, and backups.
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, and objection.
Depending on your location and the applicable law, you may have rights to request
access to personal data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion, restriction of
processing, data portability, withdrawal of consent, or objection to certain
processing. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data
protection authority.
Children
Novel Architect is not for children.
Novel Architect is intended for adult writers and is not directed to children. We do
not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided
personal data, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.
Contact
Privacy requests.
To ask questions about this Privacy Policy or exercise privacy rights, contact the
Novel Architect developer using the contact address provided in your beta invitation,
account communication, purchase receipt, or app support channel.
This policy may be updated from time to time. When changes are made, the updated
version will be posted on this page with a new last updated date. Material changes may
also be communicated through the app, email, or other reasonable channels.
